Arlette N. Braman

When I was a child, I loved learning about different cultures and Social Studies was one of my favorite subjects. My parents filled my childhood with rich cultural experiences, foods, traditions, and customs. It was only natural that I chose to write about different cultures when I started my writing career, which was only about ten years ago! (It's never too late to follow your dreams.)

I grew up in New Jersey and was probably a lot like you as a kid. I took piano lessons, rode my bike, fought with my two sisters, loved going to the beach, and I read books all the time. Some of my favorites were the Nancy Drew books (she was very cool!), classics (Little Women), and biographies about famous people, especially Amelia Earhart.

I love to travel and have been to many countries around the world. Some of my favorite places include Spain, England, Belgium, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Germany, Austria, Canada, Belize, Cozumel, Mexico, Morocco, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. It's fun to meet people from different cultures, learn about their customs, sample their foods, and try to understand their world. I draw on those experiences when I write.

My stories for grownups have appeared in the Chicken Soup for the Soul books and after six years of collaborative work with my co-author, we finally finished our mystery novel, Deadrise, written under the pseudonym, L.A. Kellman.

Writing takes up a lot of my time, but I love to sail on the Chesapeake Bay. I also enjoy horseback riding, traveling, reading, cooking, spending time with my friends, and especially with my two kids. I love living in Annapolis, Maryland and wouldn't be anywhere else.
